Litha: The Summer Solstice
The Wheel of the Year is turning again this time to the Midsummer Solstice also known as Litha. Litha is usually on June 22 (which is my 1/2 bday hehe), but falls on the 21st of June this year. Midsummer and Midwinter Solstice are the most ancient solar festivals to mankind that we know of and factor heavily in Celtic/Pagan practices. The sun is at its peak so correspondences are all about solar regeneration and worshipping deities that represent fire and sunshine.
Here are a few fun smaller celebrations for midsummer that I learned about last night below:
I love that there’s a festival named for Rowena. I wonder if Rowena Ravenclaw comes from any of those tales in Harry Potter?
I recommend working with crystals that correlate with sun and fire energies during this week as well as connecting with plants and sunshine. A sunshine meditation/spell is on my other substack at Scorpio Rising if you decide to subscribe.
Infusing your tea and water with edible flowers and fruits is also an option. Here’s a useful list I found of flowers that are safe to eat as well as herbal correspondences
Here’s how I’m celebrating Litha:
Making an offering to the fairies by pouring milk into the ground
Working with beeswax candles and honey (put honey on your tongue to sweeten your influence and interaction with others)
Meditating in the sunshine with my crystals.
Creating a Milk Bath from the faerie book I shared in my recs last week
Yoga and energy cleansing my space
Here is how to make the Milk Bath for yourself:
Ingredients:
Lavender buds
Dried Rose petals ( I used some I saved from Valentines Day)
1 Cup Coconut Milk
1 Cup of Boiling Water
1 Cup of Cow Milk
1 TBSP of Honey
Sealable Jar
Put a handful of rose petals and lavender in a large bowl.
Boil 1 cup of water over the stove and pour it over the flowers, repeat affirmations or mantras that you wish. Speak your intentions! Steep overnight.
Stir in the coconut milk, regular milk and honey.
Store in the fridge for up to 48 hours. If you wish to strain the flowers out before putting it In the bath you can also.
My herb mix looks BEAUTIFUL and it smelled amazing! I will be trying it in the bath tonight with some candles. <3
