Last month, Tammy Price went viral on a Tik Tok titled: “Don’t accept what they put on your plate.” In the video, Tammy and her friends are at a bbq. On Tammy’s plate is some chicken and corn, but not much. Her friend’s plate is filled with more sizes and options than hers. Tammy tells the group “You couldn’t pay me to accept that offer (of food). She continues rudely chiding her friend, telling her: “you couldn’t pay me a million dollars to ever accept that. I don’t do what they do I do what I do. That’s low vibrational and you took it.”
Tammy then compares her plate to her friends and points to hers indicating: “this plate is royalty. A Queen’s plate don’t look like that.” Her friend counters, arguing she doesn’t have to necessarily eat what was served. Tammy counters that her first mistake was taking the plate at all.
Obviously, the video was polarizing to say the least and fatphobic to boot. Tammy is a self defined Inspirational Speaker/Entrepreneur/Millionaire Coach which is already red flag number one. Here is her further reasoning in an article by Rolling Stone.
Tammy is one in a million of toxic gurus and inspirational speaker millionaires. In the spiritual community, much is made of High and Low Vibrations. One is considered “good” and one is considered “Bad.” I often think when I hear that concept about my choral rehearsals. My director reminded us often that “loud” does not equal “faster” and “quiet” does not equal “slower.” Sometimes we need high and sometimes we need low. There is always a duality.
Here’s some things to watch out for that I took away from that video that I have seen employed in many cults and also unhealthy gurus/leaders:
Shaming Others for their choices
Public Shaming/Embarrassment/Accountability
Inserting their opinion when NOT asked and forcing everyone to agree
Fatphobic comments around attire, looks, food.
Attitude of superiority
Wisdom that only YOU have.
10K retreats (yes…that’s how much hers cost)
Lack of accessibility
Newsflash: low vibrational is preying on others choices that don’t harm or affect you. Low vibrational is exalting yourself and lowering a friend. Low vibrational is lining your pockets, but not making your mission open to all in need. Low vibrational is not believing that your ancestors were able to create and give to you and your life while eating goddamn mashed potatoes.
